Online Webinar on World Environment Day

Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental outreach. Celebrated in over 150 countries, it unites people to take action on urgent environmental issues. This year, World Environment Day supports UNEP’s campaign to #BeatPlasticPollution, focusing on real solutions to one of the planet’s most fixable problems. The campaign urges everyone to Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink how we use plastic in daily life.

On this occasion, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Federation of CCS NIAM (IEF of CCS NIAM) conducted an Online Webinar on 5th June 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, highlighting novel innovations of CCS NIAM incubated startups to address plastic pollution.

At the outset, Dr. Ravi Kumar Goyal, COO-RKVY, IEF of CCS NIAM briefly told about the Relevance of World Environment Day 2025. Dr. Hema Yadav, Director CCS NIAM & IEF expressed her views on pioneering plastic-free pathways implemented by RKVY Agri Startups incubated by IEF of CCS NIAM. She explained about the impact of plastic pollution in India, Government of India regulations & initiatives and briefly explained about the role of IEF of CCS NIAM in nurturing and promoting agri startup innovations to tackle plastic waste crisis.

The Guest Speaker of the Webinar Mr. Sanjay Choudhry, Director, Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Jaipur gave a short presentation on Promotion of Environment Friendly Technologies by CIPET. He emphasized on various topics related to the origin of plastic, its properties, plastic packaging, recycling, significance of 4 R’s namely REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE & RECOVERY, impact of plastic pollution, and effective utilization of plastic waste management.

Thereafter, four incubated startups of IEF of CCS NIAM briefly presented about their business innovations and the role they are playing in addressing plastic pollution:

Ms. Pallavi Luharuka, Director, M/s. Royal Bengal Greentech Private Limited, Kolkata, West Bengal briefed about RBG Bioplastic: 100% biodegradable thermosetting plastic alternative, derived from waste broken rice. Her innovation provides extra remuneration to farmers and includes different product applications explored in collaboration with various industries.

Mr. Hasan Al Mehdi, Director, Fuloni Agritech Private Limited, Guwahati, Assam explained how their startup utilizes waste agri biomass to manufacture eco-friendly, plantable, compostable, and bio-plastic pots using bamboo, rattan, water hyacinth, and other natural materials.

Mr. Paramesha T. B., Director, EHF Organic Products Private Limited, Bengaluru, Karnataka, elaborated on their use of fallen Areca leaves to manufacture around 30 different types of kitchen utilities, including storage containers. He also explained their use of process waste to make fodder for animals during the lean period. They are developing animal feed technology under technical guidance from GKVK, Bangalore.

Mr. Augustien P., Director, Srija Green Galaxy Private Limited, Gadwal, Telangana, discussed their innovation of bio-pots made from groundnut shell waste as an alternative to polythene planters.

The webinar had participation from startup and staff members of IEF of CCS NIAM and partner R-ABIs including S-ABI, SKNAU, Jobner, Vikas R-ABI, ICAR-CRRI, Cuttack, and PGDM IEV students. The startup queries were addressed by Mr. Sanjay Choudhry, Director and Dr. Bishnu Prasad Panda, Manager - Technical, CIPET, Jaipur.
